Toronto Blue Jays ace Alec Manoa, 23, has been demoted to the minor leagues.
The Blue Jays announced on Sunday that they had sent the struggling right-hander to the rookie-level Florida complex.메이저놀이터
Manoa’s trip to the minors had been anticipated. Toronto brass made the decision after he gave up six runs in 0.1 innings against the Houston Astros the day before.
Before this season, Anthony Wrecker, a former baseball player who now works as an analyst for MLB Network, advised Manoa to lose some weight. Manoa weighs 130 kilograms.
Manoa responded. “Look at my record and tell me,” he said, shooting back at Wrecker.
At the time, most of the US media sided with Manoa.
Manoa went 16-7 with a 2.24 ERA in 2022 and was a finalist for the Cy Young Award.
When I asked Manoa for advice, he called it “nonsense.
After winning the popularity contest in a one-sided fashion, Manoa was “overwhelmed.
The Toronto Blue Jays hailed him as their ace and named him their starter to open the season.
However, Manoa’s performance was disastrous and he was sent down. After that, Manoa continued to struggle. He’s 1-7 with a 6.36 ERA this season.
This prompted Canadian TSN Insider Steve Phillips to make a sharp point and argue that Manoa should be sent to the minors.
Phillips attributed Manoa’s poor performance to overbulking.
According to a recent research report, having good upper body strength can lead to a harder throw. This is why pitchers are using the offseason to bulk up.
Manoa reportedly worked on his upper body strength before the season.
However, Manoa did too much strength training.
Phillips noted that Manoa’s upper body movement slowed down as a result of the bulking up. This led to a decrease in ball power and velocity.
According to Phillips, Toronto should send Manoa to the minors, where he can make adjustments.
“Hopefully, he’ll figure out what the problem is in the minors,” Toronto manager John Schneider said.
With Manoah out, the need for Ryu becomes even greater. There’s no telling when Manoah will be called up.
Ryu is expected to return in mid-July.
