Ryu, who was playing an away game in Incheon for KIA, quickly packed his bags after the trade was announced and boarded a train to Pohang. After arriving at Pohang Station at around 5.50pm, Ryu switched to a taxi and arrived at Pohang Stadium to meet the Samsung squad just before kick-off.Ryu was greeted by the coaching staff and players, including head coach Park Jin-man. Park, who took the lead in recruiting Ryu, was all smiles.
Speaking about Ryu before the game, Park said, “Our infield is young, so we needed an experienced player. He can play all infield positions in defence and I think he will be a great help to the team in batting,” Park said, adding, “I expect him to play the role of a backbone alongside Koo Ja-rook in the outfield.”
For now, Ryu Ji-hyuk will play third base for Samsung. “We plan to use him as a substitute in the middle and late innings of the game,” Park said.
