Lotte lined up with Kim Min-seok (center field), Yoon Dong-hee (right field), Jeon Jun-woo (first base), Ahn Chi-hong (second base), Yoo Kang-nam (designated hitter), Noh Jin-hyuk (shortstop), Han Dong-hee (third base), Son Sung-bin (catcher), and Hwang Sung-bin (left field). Dan Straily, the “hairy ace,” got the start.
LG came out with the following batting order: Hong Chang-ki (right fielder), Moon Sung-joo (left fielder), Kim Hyun-soo (designated hitter), Austin (first baseman), Oh Ji-hwan (shortstop), Park Dong-won (catcher), Moon Bo-kyung (third baseman), Park Hae-min (center fielder), Shin Min-jae (second baseman). It was LG who took control of the game. In the top of the first inning, Hong Chang-ki led off with a double and Moon Sung-joo followed with an RBI single for a 1-0 lead.Lotte quickly responded. In the bottom of the first inning, Yoon Dong-hee drew a walk and Jeon Jun-woo singled to load the bases before Ahn Chi-hong took advantage of a catcher’s fastball and LG Lee Jung-yong’s bunt to advance the runners by two bases, tying the game at 1-1. Ahn Chi-hong followed with an RBI single to center field to make it 2-1.
Lotte quickly added another run. In the bottom of the second inning, Noh Jin-hyuk led off with an infield single, scored on Son Sung-bin’s double and made a bold play at third base on Hwang Sung-bin’s grounder to the pitcher to make it 3-1. In the next two innings, Kim Min-seok’s RBI single, Yoon Dong-hee’s walk, and Jeon Jun-woo’s RBI single brought in two more runs to make the score 5-1.
The fired-up LOTTE bats scored in the bottom of the third inning. Leadoff hitter Yoo Kang-nam activated the home run machine against the Chinjung team, extending the lead to 6-1.
LG didn’t back down easily. After back-to-back singles by Park Hae-min and Shin Min-jae in the top of the fourth inning, they got one run back on an RBI single by Hong Chang-gi. In the top of the fifth, the leadoff hitter Kim Hyun-soo singled, Austin walked, and Oh Ji-hwan hit an RBI single to make it 6-3. On the ensuing bases-loaded walk, Park Dong-won’s infield single allowed the runner from third to score on an error by Lotte shortstop Noh Jin-hyuk, narrowing the gap to 6-4.After stalling in the fourth and fifth innings, the Lotte offense took advantage of the LG bullpen’s struggles in the bottom of the sixth to score a valuable run. With runners on second and third, Yoon Dong-hee calmly picked out a grounder to second base, and Jeon Jun-woo’s bunt was hit by a pitch to make it 7-4.
LOTTE’s bullpen then shut down LG’s resistance and protected the three-run lead. After overcoming a two-out rally in the top of the sixth, Choi Jun-yong (1⅔ innings), Koo Seung-min (⅓ inning), and Kim Won-joong (1 inning) shut down the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings to seal the deal.
Lotte took advantage of LG’s fastballs and wild pitches in the bottom of the first inning after starter Staley struggled with four runs in four innings, but never relinquished the lead.
Lotte’s bats came alive with Kim Min-seok going 5-for-3 with a home run, one RBI, one stolen base and one run, Yoon Dong-hee 1-for-1 with a home run, three walks and one run, Jeon Jun-woo 3-for-2 with a home run, two RBI and one run, Ahn Chi-hong 4-for-2 with a home run and one RBI, and Yoo Kang-nam 4-for-1 with a home run, one RBI and one run.
LG, on the other hand, collapsed as starter Lee Jung-yong’s three-inning, six-run outing was marred by a combination of wild pitches, baserunners, and hit-by-pitches. The batting lineup, which left 11 stranded runners, was also disappointing.
