Son Heung-min’s award failed.
The English Premier League (EPL) Secretariat officially announced on the 4th (Korean time) that “Rhys Nelson (Arsenal) has been selected as the English Premier League (EPL) Game Changer for the 2022-23 season.”
Earlier in May, the EPL unveiled six candidates for the ‘2022-23 Season Game Changer’. Jordan Pickford (Everton), Erling Holland, Riyad Mahrez (Manchester City), Son Heung-min, Rodrigo Bentancur (Tottenham) and Nelson were nominated.스포츠토토
Son Heung-min was nominated for his outstanding performance in the EPL round 8 match against Leicester City held in September last year. At the beginning of the opening season, Son Heung-min was in a sluggish situation. Manager Antonio Conte, who was holding the baton at the time, made Richarlison the starter, an ambitious recruit with a lot of money.
The second half entered a tight 2-2 balance. Tottenham seized the victory with a come-from-behind goal scored by Bentancur in the second half of the second minute. In the 14th minute of the second half, manager Conte put Son Heung-min in place of Richarlison, who had stopped silent without a scene to speak of. His plan was to aim for the space behind the opponent at high speed.
The mercenary technique was properly hit. In the 28th minute of the second half, Son Heung-min received a Bentancur pass and shook the net to score the first goal. Then, in the 39th minute of the second half, he scored a multi-goal with his signature sharp winding kick. Finally, in the 41st minute of the second half, he took over Pierre-Emile Hoivier’s pass and completed a hat-trick. The game ended with Tottenham winning 6-2.
The time it took for Son Heung-min from the first goal to the hat-trick was only ’13 minutes and 21 seconds’. He became the first player in Tottenham club history to score a hat-trick after coming on as a substitute. After the end of the season, Son Heung-min was again pointed out as the ‘game changer’ that had the most impact this season.
But he lost out to Arsenal Nelson. Nelson was substituted in the second half of the EPL round 26 home game against Bournemouth in March of this year. And he recorded an assist in the first minute when they were trailing 1-2. His work did not end there. In the 7th minute of extra time in the second half, after a corner kick, he shook the net with a powerful left-footed shot on the second ball. Arsenal won a dramatic 3-2 victory and went on a four-game winning streak.
The EPL Secretariat explained, “Nelson received the most votes from fans and a panel of football experts. Therefore, he took first place in the final six candidates.”
