Manchester City’s “monster striker” Elling Holland has won another Player of the Year award.
“Elling Holland has capped off a record-breaking season by being named Player of the Year for the 2022/23 season,” the Premier League announced on its official website on Sunday.
It was no surprise that Holland was named the Premier League’s best player this season. This season, Holland scored a whopping 36 goals in the league to lead City to the Premier League title.메이저사이트
Holland joined City last summer and scored 36 goals in his debut season in the Premier League, setting a new record for most goals in a single season in the Premier League.
Prior to Holland, the record for most goals in a single season in the Premier League was held by Andy Cole and Alan Shearer (34).
Those two even scored 34 goals in a 42-game season, so the fact that Holland broke the record in a 38-game season underscores the magnitude of his achievement.
And with the final league game of the 2022/23 Premier League season coming up on September 29th against Brentford in round 38, it will be interesting to see if Holland can extend his tally.
Holland’s monster performances this season have led many pundits and soccer insiders to declare him the Premier League’s best player of the 2022/23 season.
On December 12, Holland was named the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Player of the Year. In a poll of more than 800 journalists, Holland won the award with an overwhelming 82% of the vote, beating out fellow contenders Buckayo Sakho and Martin Ødegaard of Arsenal.
The Premier League Player of the Year award, which is voted on by the captains of the 20 Premier League clubs and soccer experts, also went to Holland.
Meanwhile, Holland has already claimed two individual awards for the season’s top players, but there are still two more up for grabs.
The Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Player of the Year award, which is voted on by players from all 92 English professional soccer teams, is still up for grabs, and there’s a very good chance it will go to Holland.
Already a world-class striker, Holland has also been nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award.
The Young Player of the Year award, which is given to the best player under the age of 21, requires nominees to have been 21 or younger on July 1 of the previous year.
Holland, who was born on July 21, 2000, narrowly missed the cut-off and is now in the running for the Young Player of the Year award.
