Dowdy Okello continues his ‘Journeyman’ streak. He will wear his eighth new jersey for Bursa.

안전놀이터On July 26, Turkiye League team Bursa Büyüksehir Velediyespor announced the signing of Dowdy Okello on their official social media page with the post, “Welcome to the family, Dowdy Okello! We have signed Dowdy Okello, who played for Bayankara Fresh in Jakarta last season.

Dowdy is a familiar name to fans in the country. After joining Hyundai Capital as a substitute during the 2019-2020 season when Yosvani Hernandez was sidelined with an ankle injury, Dowdy played the role of a fireman, scoring 548 points (52.78% attack success rate) in 22 games. He then re-signed with HMC for the 2020-2021 season, completing his second stint with the organization with 790 points (52.19% attack success rate) in 34 games.

Dowdy did not re-sign with Hyundai Capital ahead of the 2021-2022 season and appeared to be leaving the V-League, but he was reunited with V-League fans when he joined KEPCO, which had a foreign player spot open after the departure of existing foreign player Vardia Sadat. However, Dowdy left a bit of a mark with the KEPCO, as he saw his scoring (676 points) and attack success rate (45.03%) drop from the previous season.

Last season, Dowdy spent the 2022-2023 season in Indonesia. Playing for Jakarta Bayangkara Fresh, Dowdy performed well, being named the league’s best spiker and helping the team finish second in the league. He also competed in the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Men’s Club Championship in Bahrain in May, where his solid performance helped the team to a runner-up finish.

Born in 1995, Dowdy is still young, but Bursa Büyüksehir is already his eighth team. He started his professional career with Marek Union in Bulgaria in the 2016-2017 season, and then went on to play for Galatasaray (Turkkiye, 2017-2018), Tokat Belediye (Turkkiye, 2018-2019), and Sport Toto (Turkkiye, 2019-2020). Since then, he has worn the colors of Hyundai Capital, KEPCO, and Jakarta, and now he’s headed to Bursa Büyüksehir for another stint as a “Journeyman”.

Despite being a new team, Turkiye is a familiar place for Dowdy. Dowdy has spent three seasons in Turkuye, all in the uniform of different teams. Bursa Büyüksehir, who have finished in the league and cup competitions for the last three seasons in a row, will be looking to set their sights higher with Dowdy.
