Former Chelsea player Tony Cascarino has criticised Olympique Marseille’s decision to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on a three-year contract.
The Gabonese striker is a class act. He stands at 6ft 2in and has the elasticity and athleticism of an African. Aubameyang”s biggest strength is his speed. His long legs allow him to sprint past defenders with his speed alone.바카라사이트
Aubameyang has played in all five European leagues. After growing up in the Italian league with AC Milan as a youngster, Aubameyang moved to France. He gained experience with LOSC Lille and Monaco before breaking out at Saint-Etienne. With over 20 league attacking points in two consecutive seasons, he attracted the attention of a number of clubs before moving to Dortmund in 2013-14 to challenge for the German title.
It is also the club that represents Aubameyang. The natural successor to Robert Lewandowski, Aubameyang has developed into one of the league’s best strikers. In 2015-16, he reached the 20-goal mark for the first time in his career, and in 2016-17, he scored 31 league goals to overtake Lewandowski (30) as the league’s top scorer.
Aubameyang became a ‘living legend’ at Dortmund. His next stop was Arsenal. Moving to the English Premier League (EPL) in the second half of the 2017-18 season, Aubameyang made a smooth transition, scoring 10 goals and providing four assists in 13 league games.
In 2018-19, he was joint top scorer with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah with 22 league goals. After 92 goals and 21 assists in 163 games for the Gunners, he headed to Spain at the end of the 2021-22 season to complete his conquest of Europe’s top five leagues. Aubameyang became the focal point of the team’s attack in the second half, scoring 11 goals and providing one assist in 17 league games. But ahead of the 2022-23 season, his role was diminished by the arrival of the likes of Hapinha and Lewandowski, and he returned to the EPL with a move to Chelsea.
It was the wrong move. At Chelsea, Aubameyang fell into an extreme slump. He completely lost his place in the starting line-up and was reduced to a fringe player in the second half of the season. He scored just one goal in 15 league games and had just three goals and one assist in 21 games, including cup competitions.
His Chelsea career was over after just one year. Despite having two years left on his contract, it was cancelled by mutual consent. Marseille approached Aubameyang and he signed a three-year contract with them.
Marseille signing Aubameyang to a three-year contract past his prime. Cascarino’s reaction was incomprehensible. According to British outlet Talk Sport, he said: “There is no Aubameyang who shone at Arsenal. Marseille seem to be stuck in the past of a player who was once great. At Chelsea, he was nowhere to be seen. Will a move to Marseille revive him? Dimitri Payet and Alexis Sanchez have been resurrected at Marseille. But I’m not convinced Aubameyang can do the same,” he said.
